4A Wednesday, July 24, 2013 The Montmorency County Tribune Hillman Hometown Happenings by Had0 0nd Bmndo Red Hat Gals, you Correspondent will be meeting on Thursday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Avalon Bar for your lunch. Kids! Kids! Kids! Tuesday, July30 at 5 p.m. MediLodge of Hillman will be hosting a bicycle safety class for our community kids. The Montmorency County Sheriff Department will have an officer there to teach kids all the rules of biking and how to be safe. MediLodge will b e giving free bike hel- mets for children too. This is a great way to keep your kids safe during their summer activities. The Jr. Miss Hillman Scholarship Program will take place on Sunday, Aug. 4 at noon, and on Monday, Aug. 5 the Brush Creek Mill will host the Miss Hillman Scholarship Program at 6:30 p.m. The Hillman VFW Post 2356 mem- bers are asking for your support in the upcoming 69thAnnualVl Dayparade, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10 at noon. We can't have a parade without floats! Any type of entry; bikes, four- wheelers, trucks, etc. can participate. Contact Mark at 742-4131 for a regis- tration form. Lineup will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hillman Community Cen- ter parking area. VFW hall rentals are available, just give Bob a call at 742- 7319 or the post hall and leaving a message at 742-3670. Chemical Bankwillbe hostingapark- ing lot fundraiser for the fireworks dis- play on VI Day. You can rent one of the 16 spaces available foryour craft items, garage sale, or baked goods. The spaces will rent for $10 each, and all of the rental money will be donated for the fireworks. New this year forVJ Day, the Hillman Historical Societylocated in the Brash Creek Mill will be hosting "A Military Brat's view of U.S. Military History" with 32 display cases of authentic items, scale models, posters, maps, and music. Also, a Vietnam Hands-on display produced by LZ Arielle Pro- ductions. These events are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9-9 p.m. at the Brush Creek Mill. Watch the Tribune for a full list of events scheduled for Hillman's VJ Day Celebration, and look for flyers posted in area busi- nesses, compliments of James Stoddard and the VFW Post. It was humid and overcast, but thank- fully the rain held off until we finished the play for the league. 1st flight low gross was won by Pauline Moran after a four-way tie between Dolly Brock, Diane Battenfield and Carol Basney. Low net was won by Edith Lennox. Low putts was a two-way tie between Judy Holevar and Carol B ney with 16. ight low gross went to Annette Herzog. Low net was Barb Moran with a 38. Lowputts was Annette Herzog with 17 3rd flight low gross was won by Mary Hoisington. There were not enough players to report low net. Low putts was a two-way tie of 19, made by Mary Hoisington and Susan Stacey. The afternoon group got rained on, but we played enough holes to figure scores for the eclectic game, which will be reported next week We had no birdies or chip ins this week. See you next week.
