ection B Volume 125, Number 11 Two Sections 12625 State Street, Atlanta, Michigan 49709 by Yvonne Swager Competitors from Slaffrepoder around the state par- ticipated in the 4th Annual ATV Rodeo sponsored by Fun Country Riders and the Lewiston Area Chamber of Commerce. The event kicked off Friday with a recre- ation vehicle show, and Saturday's barrel racing was the arena for the bravery of some first-time riders as well as the antics of veterans. This year's Mystery Race challenged rid- ers to roll a barrel around a course. Wally Meldrum, the overall winner of the event, saw fit to steal the barrel of his opponent and move a distance out of the way before retrieving his own barrel and taking it across the finish line. For the regular events, age groups sepa- rated the classes of riders on motorcycles, ATVs and side-by-sides. This year's com- petition featured Ed Burke, the first per- son to ever enter a 3-wheel ATV. All youths, 13 years of age and younger; received medals for participating in the rodeo. AMI Industries Inc. and First Fed- eral of Northern Michigan donated the medals. First place in the A Class for quads went to Ezra Raymond. Preston Reid won first place in the B Class, and the C Class win- ner was ]arrett Brucher. First place for dirt bike riders ages 6-9 went to ]amie Burke. Brooke BabisCh won first place in the 10- 13 year age group, and Kyle Haley took first in the class for 14 year-olds and up. The overall winner for the 4 x 4 ATV was Todd Babisch.
