"The Caring Place" Atlanta Church of Christ 11651 M-33 Atlanta, M149709 785-4561 Thank You for Your Tax Support by Sharon Greenhoe, Ombudsman Region 9 Area on Aging The Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, Long Term Care Ombudsman Program would like to express its sincere thank you and appreciation to so many people md organizations that made our Sept. 25, 2013, Fourth Annual Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Financial Exploita- tion Prevention Conference such a huge success. For the past 4 years, this conference has been held in alternating locations within the 12-county region that the AreaAgency on Aging serves. This year, the confer- ence location was Hillman Free Methodist Church which provided the comfort and convenience 0ftheir fellowship hall. We want to give a huge thank you to Pastor Bob Coen for serving as our esteemed emcee for the day, keeping the conference moving forward effi- ciently and on time. We also want to thank the congre- gation of the Free Methodist Church for allowing us to use the church, and a specialthankyou to the folks that worked so hard in the kitchen to provide the wonder- ful continental breakfast and hearty lunch. Your hos- pitality and graciousness was outstanding and made our day so easy, informative and fun. Over 100 participants, 11 vendors, numerous spon- sors, and volunteers worked together to present a professional, informative, and action filled confer- ence. We would like to extend a big thank you to Anna Rogers, Director, and Maureen Kent, RN, and the Montmorency County Commission on Aging for their support and promotion of this conference. We could not have done any of this without the assistance and commitment of Stacey Crane, intern and volunteer for the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program. Stacey played an invaluable role in securing our conference site, working with Pastor Bob and the church workers, and for being the hometown pres- ence and coordinator of the event. Because of funding from the Michigan Office of Ser- vices to the Aging Funds, Region 9 Area Agency on Aging, the Older Americans Act, state appropriations, a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan, our sponsors - MediLodge of Hillman and Tendercare Gaylord, and our many ven- dors, we were able to offer this conference flee of charge to our attendees. Thank you to the entire Montmorency County com- munity for welcoming and supporting this confer- ence. It is our hope that the faith-based leaders, other professionals working with our elder population, and all those that attended, feel they are a little more edu- cated about how to identify and respond to suspected elder abuse and exploitation. We hope they feel more prepared for the day when they too, may be unable to make decisions for themselves. They know a little more about the many facets of dementia and how to protect themselves and their loved ones from Medi- care Fraud. Those that attended heard, maybe for the first time, about the growing awareness of hoarding and cluttering behaviors, as well as how to start the discussion with their own family about hospice and end of life issues. Most importantly, we hope that all that attended will feel empowered to help protect and improve the quality of life for the elders in our own lives. Do you need invitations for a wedding or party?
